K for Kolkata

Kolkata, my lovely hometown,

City of joy, a place of which I am proud.

Filled with music, books,

Talent all around.

Words can’t express,

The beauty of this place.

It is an experience,

The joy of living in this place.

The early morning breeze,

Is a happiness drug for me.

Passing Maidan, those wide lanes,

I feel something that’s hard to explain.

The horse chariots on red road side,

Victoria memorial gives me pride.

Beautifully lit up roads at night,

Makes a perfect setting for a drive.

The mighty Ganga, ever so clam,

Flowing beneath the Howrah Bridge.

At the sunset time, with the boat ride.

You wish, you could hold the moment, feeling so alive.

We anxiously await Maa Durga’s visit,

With great happiness do we greet.

All year around we wait along,

Just for five days of Puja and fun.

The kal baishaki, the crazy rain,

In no other place is the same.

The winter morning, the foggy sight,

Making the day look like night.

With the breeze of the evening hour,

Comes the sweet scent of shuli flower.

I sit there and enjoy the surrounding,

It is my infinity calling.

J for Jyotsna

Years ago I meet a girl,

My friend she was so special.

We called ourselves best buddies,

Remained together, inseparable were we.

First friend of mine was that girl,

Had hair with little curl.

As if we were glued,

Walking side by side, together we moved.

One day she left the school,

Left no one with any clue.

Being so close, I did not know,

The reason behind the sudden no-show.

Days and months and years went by,

But she was still in my mind.

In one class a teacher said,

That she left the world, a journey to heaven she has made.

The floor beneath me slipped,

I stayed still, with disbelief.

Convinced I was, that the teacher was mistaken,

For my friend was so young, she couldn’t go to heaven!

It felt like someone was continuously shooting at me,

And yet I was breathing unable to take out the life within me.

I was crying inside, oblivious to all the sound,

But not a drop of tear fell on the ground.

It took a while for the truth to sink in,

I just wish, I had one last meet to tell her what she means.

To tell how I loved and cared for her,

That she was the best friend I could have asked for.

The faces fade away as years go by,

But memories remain with you all the time.

Where ever YOU are I just wish,

YOU are happy, YOU deserve it.

I for Infinity

In this moment I swear, we are infinite,

The words of the author still lingers in my mind.

It was a simple car ride,

That made him feel infinite.

The words are little,

But the meaning is not so light.

I remember these beautiful words,

Sitting alone at night.

Infinity has no definition,

Unexplainable, but not a fiction.

It is in the moment that you feel,

Infinity is very much real.

The smell of the spring,

Peaceful breeze in the evening.

The beauty of the world around,

Creates happiness which knows no bound.

A song, a book, a movie, a view,

Could trigger emotions you never knew.

It is in that internal flood you find,

Infinity, peace of a divine kind.

A company of a girl and guy,

Was all that he needed to feel alive.

He felt it, and so will you,

Infinity is approaching you!

H for Heart

It is a part of me,

Not a piece of toy.

It has feelings and emotions,

Stop making it a part of your ploy.

The looks in your eyes,

It was all but fake.

I fell for the person,

The amazing man you could make.

The long walks, those never ending talks.

Were they all a part of your game?

Because the moments we had,

Never made me feel the same.

The things you said, the promises you made,

Still lingers in my mind.

Was I not good enough for you?

Or another girl did you find?

I never told you how amazing you are,

Couldn’t express or tell you my dear.

You are a shining star,

Then and now, you are so far.

If our paths ever meet,

I wish you remember me and greet.

Knowing this existence wasn’t our destiny,

I dream of the future, to suppress the agony.

I wish our “if only” could come true,

A life I could have with you.

G for Girl

Disappointment was all around,

When the little one opened her eyes and looked around.

Wanting a boy was on their mind,

Entering the room, a girl, did they find.  

As she grew up, a little brother did she have,

Playing with him, love was all she gave.

All she wished for was to be loved like her brother,

But she was always treated as the unwanted other.

Today she walks as a company’s chairman,

Everyone respects her, calls her Ma’am.

She knew the battle was her own,

Making a life, now she shows the world to the level she has grown.

The little brother, whom she still loves,

Is an employee in the company she works.

Giving so much importance to the boy, what did the parents find?

He considers them a burden in his life!

The girl that they considered unwanted,

Who craved for their acceptance.

From medical issues to family outing,

Lives today with them, takes care of all their expense.

A girl child is not a curse, not a mistake,

It is a blessing that God gave.

Respect her, love her, encourage her,

She will rule the world, she has such Power.

F for Forgiveness

Just words and talk, is not what this is,

Forgiveness is a deed, mightier than we believe.

Forgive and forget- something heard often,

Indeed it is helpful, frees you from the burden.

All those incidents and the ugly fights,

Caused you only trouble in its light.

It took a place in your heart,

Highlighting only the negative part.

Passing days make things worse,

Blinding you of your senses and making you curse.

The annoyance and irritation builds up,

Ruins the relationship, widens the distance you have.

There still remains a part of you,

Wishing for things to be normal between you two.

You feel pained, sadden by the turn of events,

Desperately wanting to end the fight, make amends.

It is this desperation that needs to be heard,

Willing to give the relationship another chance.

Forgiving the other, ending the blame game,

Sorting things out, redefining the relationship’s name.

In forgiveness lies the satisfaction,

Transforms you into a better person, by making those corrections.

Let not the rigidity be a hindrance, a barrier,

If something is good, forgive and be happier.

In prayers we seek the forgiveness,

Forgive those who trespass against us.

Fights happen, relationships get sour,

But think about the good that is at stake, thus Forgive, it is in your Power.

E for End

The life we live, the time we have,

Everything has an end.

Today we breathe, in this moment we feel,

Soon all will be over, and we will be still.

Why don’t we enjoy the good times we have?

Why can’t we be grateful for what we get?

Is it Always the greed for more happiness in life?

That we forget to experience the present, and be alive?

 For dust thou art,
And unto dust shalt thou return

Then why not make this life a better ride?

Acknowledging the goodness, living with pride.

We crave for money,

We die for wealth,

Only trying to live someone else’s life,

Ignoring the good that God gave.

Not forever will we last,

The “now” moments will be past.

Then why give into the greed of the uncertain future?

End is approaching, make the most of the present, for its now or never.
